Alex writes for television, theatre, film and audio. His play Rakali was nominated for Best Theatre at the 2023 Melbourne Fringe, and called "gloriously original" and "deliciously entertaining" by critics after a sold out season. He wrote, directed and acted in upcoming seven-part audio drama "Hovering", produced by Clea Frost, which is being released in November 2023.
He's worked as a script coordinator and notetaker for Werner Film Productions, Tony Ayers Productions, Hoodlum, Roadshow Rough Diamond and Princess Pictures, across children's TV, murder mysteries and sitcoms, among others.
He writes across many genres, often mixing drama, mystery and comedy, and using an element of magic realism or supernatural events to transform an everyday situation into something complex.
He brings his experience as a queer person growing up in a small town in Tasmania into his work, and writes with a strong sense of place, sometimes using a houseboat or a Bass Strait island as a character in the work. Whatever he's writing, he always comes back to family and the human need to create and keep family close, whether that's a mother and her adopted daughter, a Melbourne sharehouse, or a small town community rocked by alien sightings.
